Social Innovation Internship

The Civika Asian Development Academy has been operating social labs for several years and aims to replicate the model in the Philippines, Thailand, Nepal, Cambodia, Kenya, and Sri Lanka. The sectors we are involved in are social housing, food security and nutrition, substance use, financial inclusion, forest sustainability, inclusive recovery, water security, education innovations, futures thinking, and communication for development.


We are accepting interns who are interested in working on transnational development projects. The work will be done entirely online.


Responsibilities:

This position will be a combination of Digital Organizing, Digital Marketing and Communications, Design Thinking and Prototyping, and Partnership-Building.


Digital Organizing

  • Develop digital distributed organizing systems to recruit, manage and activate volunteers, supporters, and partners.

  • Create content and strategies to convert digital engagement into further digital engagement and peer-to-peer interactions.

  • Execute social media and email list strategies for programs and actions.

  • Update, maintain, analyze and report on data.

  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with partner organizations, volunteers and staff.


Digital Marketing and Communications

  • The digital marketing and communications component of this position will focus on expanding Civika’s intended audiences.

  • Support development of digital communications and marketing strategies.

  • Coordinate organizational calendar and timeline of digital communications & marketing.

  • Maintain and expand digital and supporter engagement platforms (e.g. email, website, social media).

  • Execute rapid response social media and emails at ranging hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Develop, test and refine successful content for social media, website and other digital channels.


Sectoral Analyst

  • Do online research to develop country-specific sectoral briefs


Experience & Skill Requirements:

  • Passion for working to fulfill Civika’s mission

  • Drive to connect with people of diverse backgrounds

  • Desire to strive to be inclusive and diverse in organizing practice

  • Connected to local community or strong desire to build connections in the community

  • At least 1 year experience doing digital organizing and/or community organizing (ideally using engagement organizing model), marketing, communications,

Organizing skills must include:

  • digital/remote organizing and working in teams

  • Team player and problem solver, but must be able to work independently

  • Able to quickly adapt to new technologies

  • Proficiency in English required.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communicator, ability to tell compelling stories

  • Proven experience using multiple social media platforms in content creation and administrative roles

  • Strong ability to use common word processing programs, databases, and CRMs

  • Great organizational skills and attention to detail, self-starter, and self-managed

  • Able to develop project plans to meet daily, weekly, monthly internal goals

  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize competing demands

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure

  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

  • Able to bring a problem-solving orientation, and use challenges to grow

  • Experience with digital peer-to-peer phone banking, peer-to-peer text banking, remote/video/phone group organizing, video-editing, and/or graphic design, are preferred
